Date: Aug 28, 1946
Venue: Montreal Forum
Attendance: 14,750
Result: Greco W10 Castilloux
Synopsis: Greco and Castilloux were two Montrealers competing for the Canadian welterweight title, which Castilloux had held for five years. He had won the title in 1941 from Maxie Berger, one of the greatest boxers that Montreal ever produced.
At 23 years old, Greco was seven years younger than Castilloux, and he outweighed the champion by 7.5 pounds. After ten rounds, Greco was awarded a decision despite a late rally from Greco that added some drama to the contest. Greco’s youth, aggression, and power led him to victory.
Greco’s last fight was in 1954 and he sadly passed away later that year as a result of a car accident. He finished with a record of 78-18-5 (43 KOs). Castilloux fought until 1948 and he retired with a record 106-20-4 (48 KOs).
