Today I am taking a break from fight writing to share a more personal piece that was just published on a different Substack. Although combat sports are my niche, I think writers can be versatile just like actors who play a wide range of roles.
To provide more context, a couple of months ago, I attended an event in Toronto by Zibby Owens, who was promoting her new book titled On Being Jewish Now. I highly recommend reading this amazing collection of personal essays written by Jews of all backgrounds, detailing how their connection to Judaism has changed since the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7.
I thoroughly enjoyed the event and getting to hear from Zibby and Heather Reisman, the CEO of Indigo Books and Music. During the event, Zibby mentioned that her publishing company had created a Substack devoted to showcasing personal essays from all Jewish writers. I was excited to hear that and I decided that I would write an essay too.
I worked hard on it and thanks to the help of the editors from the On Being Jewish Now team, my essay was published and I have included it below.
Thanks for taking the time to read it!
